â¢JUDY BRUCE, a local composer and pianist, had a piano duet chosen to be performed in Colombia, South America, this summer.
Her piece, âCircle of Life,â is written for one piano and four hands. The piece was chosen by The College Music Society, which will be having a two-week symposium in Colombia.
One of the pianists performing the work will be former New Castle resident Dr. Nanette Kaplan Solomon.Â
This is the fourth time Bruce has had her works performed internationally.
She has also had music performed in Argentina, Australia and Belgium. In the U.S., her music has been performed on both coasts and in many venues in Pennsylvania, New York and the surrounding states.
Almadan was one of 638 students named to the Dean s List at the Alliance, OH university.
To be eligible for the Dean s List, students must have completed at least 12 credit hours of traditionally graded coursework while achieving a grade point average of 3.550 or better with no letter grade below a B.

Alliance firefighters coordinated with the University of Mount Union to collect hundreds of blankets for people in need this winter.
Donations were amassed at the fire stations on East Broadway Street and South Union Avenue and in boxes located throughout Mount Union s campus from Nov. 9 to Dec. 18. On Friday, the blankets collected at Mount Union were brought to the station on East Broadway Street.
Alliance Firefighter and Project Warm Blanket Coordinator Chris Waffler said the blankets will be distributed to domestic violence shelters and families in need in the Alliance area. Additionally, he said some blankets will be kept on the firetrucks so that firefighters can hand them out if they notice people who may need them while driving through the city.
