17th Iowa Prison Inmate Dies From COVID-19

By Jason Taylor Feb 2, 2021 Robert Taylor died Sunday night at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. He was 72-years-old and was serving a life sentence for 1st Degree Murder in Blackhawk County. Iowa prisons experienced a systemwide COVID-19 outbreak in November which coincided with a statewide spike. At that time, the union representing Iowa public workers called for a shutdown of prison admissions and transfers The outbreak has since subsided. More than 4,400 inmates and 670 staff members have tested positive for the virus since the pandemic struck the U.S. in March of 2020. Two staff members in the prison system have died from the virus.

New MyChart feature allows for scheduling COVID-19 tests through UIHC

1/30/21 The University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics MyChart app has a new feature that can determine if you should get a COVID-19 test…and it also lets you schedule it. UIHC officials say the feature should be used if you are experiencing symptoms that make you wonder if you have COVID-19 (including fever of 100° F or higher, cough, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, sore throat, or loss of taste), or have been around someone who has a confirmed positive COVID-19 test. If you’re between the ages of 18 and 55, the new Symptom Checker service can help you quickly determine if you need to schedule a COVID-19 test or a telehealth video visit.
