Kentucky State Police Conducts Death Investigation in Martin County

/ WSIP AM 1490 | CBS Sports Feb 9, 2021 3:57 PM The Kentucky State Police Pikeville Post received a call from Martin County Sheriff’s Office advising a male had been electrocuted near River Front Road in the Lovely community of Martin County.  A detective from post 9 responded to investigate. The initial investigation indicated Brandon Chapman, 36 years old of Tomahawk, was electrocuted near an abandoned building off River Front Road. Brandon Chapman was pronounced deceased on scene by the Martin County Coroner’s Office. KSP Releases Names and Updates on Fatal Knott Co Collision

/ WSIP AM 1490 | CBS Sports Feb 8, 2021 10:29 AM On February 4, 2021, at approximately 6:51 P.M, Troopers with Kentucky State Police, Post 13, Hazard, responded to a two-vehicle collision in the Brinkley Community of Knott Co. Initial investigation indicates that Willis Handshoe, 47, of Leburn, was operating a 2006 GMC Sierra, northbound on KY-160, when he crossed the center line into the southbound lane, colliding with a Gold 1999 Ford passenger car being operated by Amanda Brown, 40, of Brinkley. The Knott Co Coroner’s Office pronounced Brown deceased at the scene. A passenger with Brown, Delana Caudill, 60, of Brinkley, was airlifted to Johnson City Medical Center to be treated for her injuries, where she is listed in stable condition. Handshoe was transported to Hazard ARH to be treated for minor injuries. Toxicology results are pending at this time. This collision was reconstructed and is still under investigation by Trooper Jarret Fields.

Lawrence Co Man Arrested on Trafficking and Weapon Charges

/ WSIP AM 1490 | CBS Sports Feb 8, 2021 10:30 AM A Lawrence Co man was arrested Thursday on trafficking and weapon charges. According to the Lawrence Co Sheriff’s Office, David Michael Ferguson of Blaine was arrested and charged with trafficking in a controlled substance (1st degree), possession of a handgun by a convicted felon, two counts of possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, and tampering with physical evidence. The Sheriff’s Office said the arrest is part of an ongoing investigation into the sale and distribution of illegal narcotics in rural parts of Lawrence Co. The Lawrence Co Sheriff’s Office was assisted with this investigation by the Louisa Police Department.
