Student-athletes from University of Santo Tomas will reportedly maintain their scholarships despite the cancellation of UAAP Season 83 last month.
In Friday’s report by the Varsitarian, UST’s official student publication, Fr. Rodel Cansancio, OP, director of the Institute of Physical Education and Athletics, confirmed that scholarships will be retained for the second term of the academic year 2020-2021.
“In this time of pandemic and uncertainties, no student should be left behind,” said Cansancio as quoted by the Varsitarian.
Athletics moderator Rodrigo Sambuang also said around 579 collegiate and 330 high school talents would benefit from the move.
UST earlier also honored the scholarships from the second semester of AY 2019-2020 until the first term of 2020-2021, which ended December last year.

The National Museum of the Philippines (NMP) received two new sculptures from contemporary Filipino glass sculpture Ramon Orlina to enhance the National Fine Arts Collection.
These are “Community of Joy”, made from carved peach amber glass, and “Elegance in Simplicity”, from carved green glass.
Orlina, accompanied by his wife Lay Ann, turned over the art works to the National Museum. Director-General Jeremy Barns and Deputy Director-General for Museums Ana Labrador received the gifts.
“The Orlina sculptures are a welcome addition to the exhibition gallery especially dedicated to Philippine modern sculpture at the National Museum of Fine Arts, and will soon be placed on display,” the NMP said.

Senator Joel Villanueva is the guest judge on the popular segment Bawal Judgmental of the longest-running noontime show Eat Bulaga! on Saturday, January 9.

The Petro Gazz Angels revealed three new recruits in their bid for a second title in the Premier Volleyball League.
In a social media post Wednesday night, the team officially welcomed Mean Mendrez, Ria Meneses and Kath Arado after losing five key players to free agency.
The three players are coming from the Generika-Ayala Lifesavers, who are taking a leave of absence in the Philippine Superliga.
A former University of the East standout, Meneses won 2
nd Best Outside Hitter in the PSL, while Meneses, a product of University of Santo Tomas, was PSL’s Best Blocker in the 2018 All-Filipino Conference.
