Louisiana Voters Support Marijuana Legalization and Are Split on Mandatory Vaccines for College Students
Danae Columbus - Contributing Writer April 30th 2021
A majority of Louisiana’s voters support legalization of recreational marijuana, according to a new poll by Dr. Edward E. Chervenak and Dr. Anthony Licciardi on a behalf of the University of New Orleans Survey Research Center. Respondents were also asked if they thought college students should be required to receive a Covid-19 vaccination before returning to classes in person.
The 692-person poll surveyed voters with cell phones via live calls and reached voters with traditional landline phones by interactive voice response (IVR). Conducted April 26 through April 28, 2021, landlines accounted for 55% of the sample while mobile phones accounted for 45%. The margin of error was +/- 3.7%.
Humble ISD posts second financial statements of candidates Written by Cynthia Calvert Published: 30 April 2021
The second round of campaign financial disclosures for the Humble ISD school board election show Martina Dixon raised the most money during the second reporting period (March 23- April 21.) She raised $5,980. Chris Parker had the second highest donated, with a reporting of $5,352. Ken Kirchhofer raised $2,908.53 and Robert Sitton raised $2,763.04. The reports are posted at HumbleISD.net.
Dixon benefited from a $2,500 donation from Rick Walker, a Kingwood resident who ran for Congress in 2018. The first round of reports showed he donated the same amount to Sitton, Parker and Janie Branham. U.S. Congressman Dan Crenshaw, who defeated Walker, donated $1,000 from his campaign to Sitton.

I teach creative nonfiction writing to MFA students at the University of New Orleans. Inevitably, when we discuss memoir, the question of memory comes up. How can you remember things with any accuracy and reliability that happened so long ago? they ask. Especially dialogue. The students are wary of putting down dialogue from their deep past. Most of them are under thirty, so the time in the past they’re talking about that gives them pause is around fifteen to twenty years ago. How can we be expected to remember what someone said that long ago? they ask. Nonfiction is supposed to be a true account of what actually happened. Isn’t it? What should we do? they ask. I can’t remember one workshop I’ve taught where this question hasn’t been raised.
