The Rivers State Police Command on Tuesday confirmed the release of a lecturer at the University of Port Harcourt, Dr Jones Ayouwo, who was abducted by gunmen three weeks ago.
Ayouwo, a senior lecturer in the Department of Linguistics and Communication Studies, was kidnapped on February 21, 2021 on Bori Road in the Khana Local Government Area on his way from a Bible translation meeting.
A spokesman for the state police command, Nnamdi Omoni, in a statement, said the victim was released unhurt on Monday night, adding that the kidnappers took to flight on sighting the police.

Augustine Ikechuku Ahiauzu was bom in Odeke, an Igala speaking area in Ibaji Local Government Area of Kogi State on the 27th of July 1943 to late Evangelist Thompson Ahiauzu and Mrs Agnes (Titinwa Oba) Ahiauzu. He was the first son and surviving child of the family and dearly beloved by his father. At the time of Augustine s birth, his father was a missionary serving at Odeke and the Church planted in the community by his Catechist father was named St. Augustine Anglican Church.
