WARREN – Maine Speaker of the House Ryan Fecteau appointed State Representative Bill Pluecker, I-Warren, Tuesday to the Maine Board of Agriculture.
The Board of Agriculture is a policy-based research committee that works closely with the University of Maine System and advises the Chancellor and the President of the University, according to a news release.
The board will work in collaboration with the University of Maine Cooperative Extension to identify research and programming based on the needs of the agricultural community in Maine.

University of Maine Cooperative Extension and University of New Hampshire Cooperative Extension are offering a free three-session introduction on farm food safety planning from 5â6:30 p.m. Feb. 2, Feb. 9 and Feb. 16.
âFarm Food Safety Planning Made Simpleâ topics include essentials needed in a farmâs food safety plan, farm-specific risks, best practices for standard operating procedures and hygiene, and record-keeping. A panel discussion will focus on the recall process with farmers and retailers. UMaine Extension and UNH Extension specialists and professional staff will lead the sessions.

AUGUSTA University of Maine Cooperative Extension 4-H is partnering with the Maine Primitive Skills School and Sportsman’s Alliance of Maine to offer a new monthly outdoor educational series for families with youth ages 7 to 18, according to a news release from the extension office.
Outdoor Family Adventures is for those interested in learning more about Maine’s ecology, observing birds and their habitats, responsible fire building, and safely spending time in the Maine outdoors. Programs will be held from 3 to 5 p.m. Jan. 31, Feb. 28, March 28 and April 25 at 2273 North Belfast Ave., Augusta. Participants are responsible for bringing their own portable seating, water and snacks. Face coverings are required.

University of Maine Cooperative Extension and University of New Hampshire Cooperative Extension will offer a webinar for home gardeners about the principles of pruning from 6–7 p.m. Feb. 10.
“The Science of Pruning” will focus on proper pruning cuts for perennials based on factors including plant growth rate, flowering season and height. UNH Extension Education Center program coordinator Emma Erler will lead the workshop.
