Feb. 10, 2021 Kentucky vaccination sites have begun the long process of inoculating the 1C category, made up of more than 1 million people.  On March 1, Kentucky s regional vaccination clinics opened appointments to those in the 1C category. But not everyone had access right away. First in line were those 60 and older, who continue to be a priority.  On March 15, the sites expanded access to medically compromised people, with some sites opening to essential workers, too. Beginning March 22, all those 50 and older will have access in the 1C category as well.

The 1C category consists of more than 1 million Kentuckians. Louisville s health strategist, Dr. Sarah Moyer, recently estimated the group makes up around 60% of Jefferson County s population. 

Louisville vaccination sites to open to those 60 and older

Louisville will open COVID-19 vaccine appointments to people 60 or older Monday, even as they work to complete vaccinations of those 70-plus group, officials announced Friday. This is outstanding news, Louisville Mayor Greg Fischer said at a news conference at Broadbent Arena, the site of the the city s drive-thru mass vaccine clinic. We want to get as many shots in as many arms as we can. While it likely will be weeks before the vaccine appointments take place for the new age group, people 60 or older may begin signing up through websites of local hospitals. But health leaders stressed they first want to take care of people 70 or older still seeking a vaccine who will continue to get priority.
