The Matanzas track team competed at the Class 3A-Region 1 meet Saturday, May 1, resulting in one athlete heading to the state championships and many personal records for the team. The team did really well earning a lot of PRs, Matanzas head track coach Tim Kane said. Bradyn Cox led our effort by qualifying for the State Championships in the discus.
Leading the girls was Elecktra Engblom who PR d in the 200 meters with a 26.88 and the long jump at 15 8.75 . Zach Spooner led the boys with ninth place in the 3200 meter run and a PR of 10:19.98 which is 21 seconds faster.

Lt. Phil Huddy couldn’t jump into the water to help look for Termidor because of a broken leg, said Master Police Officer Darrell Rivers.
Huddy called 911 and performed CPR on Termidor after he was found in the water by a classmate and an off-duty Brevard County firefighter.
Termidor was in the water about 10 minutes before his classmates realized he was missing, according to the Sheriff’s Office report.

GREEN COVE SPRINGS, Fla. – Green Cove Springs Junior High Principal Jen Halter has been named 2021 Florida Principal of the Year, the school district announced Tuesday.
Halter has been at the school for six years and previously served as the assistant and vice-principal at Green Cove Springs Junior High where she helped lead the school from a “C” to an “A” school grade, which has continued to be maintained under her leadership.
