Headway Worcestershire, which provides support to the 1,000 county residents who acquire a brain injury every year, is in the running for the Healthcare Team Award. Janice Hughes, from Gregory s Mill Street-based charity, said: It has been challenging for everyone at the moment but as a delicate team we have managed to support these most vulnerable people encouraging them. As a team ,we go above and beyond what is expected of us, we all trust each other which has built strong bonds.

WHEN a local woman got a call on holiday to say her mother had fallen and broken her hip, she knew it was time for action. When she got home she went round, packed a suitcase, and brought her mum home to live with her. But how to cope when she had a full-time job? The answer was The Gables Rest Home at Broomfield Road in Kidderminster, who agreed to take her mother on a day care basis – despite the fact they were a residential home and did not have any other non-resident clients. When lockdown came in the woman had another panic – how would this work if she could not drop her mother to the home anymore because of the Covid restrictions.
