College notebook: Hartford moving from Division I to Division III The America East member, which made the NCAA men s basketball tournament for the first time this year, plans to stop offering scholarships in all sports before the 2023-24 school year. May 6, 2021 Not even two months removed from the men s basketball program s first Division I NCAA tournament bid, the University of Hartford is heading back down the college athletics ladder. Hartford s Board of Regents voted to drop its athletic teams from Division I to Division III on Thursday, per Alex Putterman of the Hartford Courant. The move is set to take place no later than Sept. 1, 2025, according to Putterman. UK Announces 1st Woman Director of Wildcat Marching Band

Shayna Stahl will be the first woman director of UK Athletic Bands. LEXINGTON, Ky. (May 7, 2021)   The University of Kentucky welcomes Shayna Stahl as director of Athletic Bands and assistant director of Bands in the School of Music. Stahl will become the first woman to serve as the director of the Wildcat Marching Band. Stahl will also serve as director of the UK Pep Bands and as the conductor of the UK Concert Band.  “I am very pleased that Dr. Stahl will be joining us at the UK School of Music this summer,” said Stan Pelkey, director of the UK School of Music. “Dr. Stahl is an experienced director of athletic bands who has worked with Division I athletic bands for the past 15 years. She will be ready from her first day on campus to guide the Wildcat Marching Band toward a successful fall season.

Hartford Hawks Transitioning from Division 1 to Division 3

The University of Hartford / The Hartford Hawks ( Image Courtesy of Hartford.edu) The Board of Regents at The University of Hartford has voted to transition the athletic program from division one to division three. This is a surprising move that doesn’t happen often in NCAA sports. The Hartford Hawks plan to file for the transition in 2022 so they can begin playing division three sports in the fall of 2025. This decision came after a year of discussion and studies that involved coaches, athletic staff, and athletes on campus. If all goes well then the Hartford Hawks will be in division three by the year 2025.
