Mr Bagbin believed such a move which he described as a “political position”, will ensure more efficiency in the delivery of justice in the country. He made these statements at a public lecture on the theme: “Corruption and National Development,” organised by the Faculty of Integrated Development Studies (FIDS) of the University for Development Studies (UDS), Wa campus.

Over 11,000 students refuse admission to UDS

However, out of the total number of students that were offered admission into the university, the Vice-Chancellor of the UDS, Professor Gabriel Ayum Teye said only 5,518 honoured the admission to study in the university. Speaking at the 28th matriculation ceremony of the school last Friday (February 12), the Vice-Chancellor added that the university also admitted 512 postgraduate students and 355 accepted the offer. Out of a total of 22,609 undergraduate and 939 postgraduate applications, 16,763 and 512 students respectively were admitted. However, only 5,518 undergraduates and 355 postgraduates accepted the offer, Prof Ayum Teye indicated.

He said, the government of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) have tried best practices and have introduced various programmes to address this issue but it continues to be a threat. “Youth unemployment, if not properly and urgently addressed remains a time bomb, waiting to explode” he bemoaned.

Rawlings family welcomes decision to name UDS after him – Ghana Visions

+ The family of the late former President Jerry John Rawlings has welcomed any decision to name the University for Development Studies (UDS) after him. According to the family, it has never been against such a ‘forward looking’ decision, thus, it welcomed the naming of the institution after him. “We have quickly checked with her excellency and I have her authority to inform you that the family has never been against this forward-looking suggestion and we would have absolutely no objection if your university can achieve that,” a member of the family and former diplomat, Mr Victor Gbeho, said on Monday when a delegation from the UDS, led by its Vice Chancellor, Prof. Gabriel Ayum Teye, visited the residence of the late Rawlings to commiserate with the family.
