Galway Bay fm newsroom – A couple who died in a house fire near Ballinasloe in the early hours of this morning have been named locally as Joey Tumulty and Nuala Kenny.
Both were aged in their mid-forties and are originally from the local area.
Four fire appliances from Ballinasloe and Athlone stations attended the scene at Gurth, Rooty Cross, on the Roscommon-Galway border about 13 kilometres from Ballinasloe, around 2am.
The bodies have since been removed to University Hospital Galway, where post mortem examinations will be carried out.
The two-storey house has been sealed off and Gardaí have appealed for witnesses to contact them at Roscommon Garda Station on 090 6437102, the Garda Confidential Line or any Garda station.

In our third installment of our ‘Day in the Life’ series, Dan Danaher speaks with local podiatrist Doireann MacLaughlin.
WHILE a lot of health services were put on hold due to the Covid-19 pandemic, local podiatrists decided they could continue providing an accessible service to reduce the number of patients attending University Hospital Limerick.
This prompted the establishment of two Rapid Access Clinics in Ennis and Limerick in April 2020.

A Clare man in his 30s has died in a workplace accident in Galway.
The incident occurred this morning on the Monivea Road in the city. The man, believed to be a carpenter in his 30s, was fatally injured while working on construction site.
It’s understood he died after suffering a fall. His body was removed to University Hospital Galway for a post mortem examination.
Gardaí and National Ambulance Service paramedics attended the incident while the Health and Safety Authority has been notified of the tragedy.

How doctors treat some patients with hypertension could soon change, thanks to an Irish-led study.
Researchers from NUI Galway, Johns Hopkins University and Harvard Medical School found no evidence that diastolic blood pressure – the bottom reading on a blood pressure test – could be harmful to patients when reduced to levels that were previously considered to be too low.

Prof. Bill McEvoy, Professor of Preventive Cardiology at NUI Galway and a Consultant Cardiologist at University Hospital Galway, said the findings could have an immediate impact on the clinical care of patients.

Galway Bay fm newsroom – Gardai have confirmed that a man has died in a workplace accident on the Monivea Road in the city.
The man, aged in his 30’s, was fatally injured while working on construction site in the area this morning.
His body has since been removed to University Hospital Galway where a post mortem examination will take place.
Gardaí remain at the scene this evening and the Health and Safety Authority has been notified.
