Fairford news: New county councillor elected as mayor re-elected unanimously

Fairford news with Chris Roberts AT the annual meeting of Fairford Town Council held on Tuesday, May 4, Cllr James Nicholls was unanimously re-elected for a second term as mayor of Fairford. A NEW Gloucestershire County Councillor for Fairford and Lechlade was elected on May 6. He is Dom Morris, who lives on the family farm at Quenington. He replaces Ray Theodoulou who has been a GCC Councillor since he was first elected in 2001. Ray served as a cabinet member for finance, property and investments for ten years and then, for eight years, oversaw the construction of the energy from waste project – the largest and most controversial project ever undertaken in Gloucestershire.

A study by the University of Southampton has shown its LifeLab programme, aimed at improving adolescent health through hands-on learning, significantly increases young people’s understanding of what it means to lead a healthy lifestyle. Led by a team from both the Faculty of Medicine and Education School at the University of Southampton, the LifeLab programme aims to encourage engagement with the science behind public health messages, to support development of health literacy alongside decision-making skills and promotion of adolescents’ sense of control over their lives and futures. Based at University Hospital Southampton (UHS) NHS Foundation Trust, LifeLab is a state-of-the-art teaching laboratory dedicated to improving adolescent health through science engagement.

Emergency services rush to crash on Leigh Road, Eastleigh

Emergency services rush to crash on Leigh Road, Eastleigh. Photo sent in by reader. TWO people have been taken to hospital after a crash that partially closed a town centre road. Just before 4pm on Monday, firefighters and ambulance crews were called to a crash on Leigh Road, Eastleigh.  The road had been partially blocked in both directions between Passfield Avenue and Brookwood Avenue.  Fire crews from Eastleigh and Redbridge attended the incident and police were also on the scene. A South Central Ambulance Service spokesperson said that two adults in one of the cars involved were taken to University Hospital Southampton with minor injuries.
