Pa. crosses 26K lives lost to COVID same day it hits 48% of population with at least 1 vaccine shot

More than 26,000 Pennsylvanians have lost their lives to COVID-19 since the global pandemic hit the state in March 2020.
The 84 deaths reported Tuesday by the Pennsylvania Department of Health bring the state’s death toll to 26,072 people, according to the daily report. The majority of those who have died were over 65.
The 3,333 new coronavirus infections also reported Tuesday bring the total to 1,139,390 people sickened since the first case was detected almost 14 months ago.
This comes as the rate of new infections and hospitalized patients is slowing, but deaths are still rising.

The National Weather Service is calling for a chance of showers and thunderstorms Wednesday morning, followed by showers and a possible thunderstorm after 8 a.m. According to the NWS, there is a 70% chance of precipitation, with new rainfall amounts falling between a tenth and a quarter of a inch, with the chance of higher amounts during thunderstorms. Wind gusts during the storms could reach as high as 30 miles per hour.
All 4,000 vaccinations set for Wednesday will be moved to Friday, though the times for the appointment times will remain the same.

Both Pennsylvania senators offered thoughts following the guilty verdict in the Derek Chauvin murder trial in Minnesota. Bob Casey said in a statement, This verdict is about accountability, but it is not justice. While Derek Chauvin will be held accountable for the murder of George Floyd, it’s not enough. Countless others have died at hands of police because of a broken system that must be reformed. Pat Toomey released a statement saying, Derek Chauvin was convicted by a jury of his peers of the murder of George Floyd. My sympathies remain with the Floyd family. While nothing can cure the hurt the Floyd family lives with every day, I do hope this verdict brings them a degree of solace.”
