SALT LAKE CITY The COVID-19 vaccination rates in Utah look different based on the county. And this week, more high schools around the Wasatch Front are offering clinics for ages 16 and up to get a COVID-19 vaccine. It adds to the numbers of Utah s biggest still unvaccinated age group.
The majority of Utahns over age 70 are fully vaccinated, but they ve been eligible longer. Utahns ages 16 to 49 have been eligible for the last month. Almost 880,000 Utahns are fully vaccinated. That s 37% of the eligible population 16 and up. Photo: Utah Health Department
But it varies by the local health department. In some areas of Utah, counties report percentages of people fully vaccinated in the low to mid-20s, out of their total populations.

School is weeks away from ending for the year, but the mask-wearing controversy continues to stir contention just as strongly as it did eight months ago. As some parents show up to school district meetings and make a push to end the mask mandate in schools, others are expressing concern over a new kind of doctor shopping that they say is happening across the state.
Parents allege that medical professionals are handing out mask exemption notes for students some without ever meeting the child or parent face-to-face.

MURRAY A couple of Utah school districts have started giving high school students, 16 years of age and older, the COVID-19 vaccine, while other districts explored the idea.
A public health expert cited several critical reasons the community needs the teens to roll up their sleeves. We need everyone to get us to herd immunity, said Dr. Tamara Sheffield, Intermountain Healthcare s medical director of Community Health and Prevention.
Health departments in Summit County and Tooele County began putting on Pfizer vaccine clinics at the high schools for students with parental permission.
