Where Elegance and Beauty Meet Functional Design
The art of architecture training at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris
Seldom do we see architectural designs that never made it off the drawing board. Often such drawings were stored away in dark archives or lost forever. Architectural drawings completed at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris seemed destined for similar fates. But one American collector’s ardor for Beaux-Arts drawings has meant that we can catch a rare glimpse of architectural treasures that beautifully document professional architect training in France.
Until June 13, visitors to the New-York Historical Society can see French architectural drawings from the private collection of investor and philanthropist Peter May, in the exhibition “The Art of Architecture: Beaux-Arts Drawings From the Peter May Collection.”
The sculptural composition consists of 12 bright-red metal forms intertwined with each other on a vertical axis.
The work was placed on a marble base, designed by the artist himself.
“This work is a composition that from a young age I wanted to exist in the place where I was born. My heart and soul are always here,” Georgiou said.
“This piece belongs to Thessaloniki. I hope my compatriots love it as much as I love it and I hope it becomes a landmark in the city that people will enjoy,” the well-known artist added.
Referring to the symbolism of the project, Georgiou stressed that everyone has their own ‘code of life’ and will interpret it differently. “We could say that it is a moment of life in which friendship, solidarity and cooperation exist.”

Citizen K Arabia: Is it true that, at a certain time, your presence alone would determine which parties were worth attending?
Paloma Picasso : Before getting into purely creative activities, I was my own creation to a certain extent. That was a time when I would go out a lot, and the way I used to dress and put my make-up on would draw a lot of attention from the public, as well as photographers, as I looked slightly ahead of my time and gave a futuristic impression.
