Picture by Firdaus Latif KUALA LUMPUR, May 20 After recording a new high of 6,075 cases yesterday, the Health Ministry said today new Covid-19 infections surged to a further 6,806 cases in the last 24-hour period. In a tweet by Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah, Selangor remains top of the list for most cases at 2,277, followed by 655 in Kuala Lumpur and 615 in Johor. Selangor consistently hitting 2,000 daily infections over the past week comes as it launched a free statewide mass testing drive earlier this month to detect ‘silent carriers’ of the Covid-19 virus.

20 May 2021 / 20:48 H. KUALA LUMPUR: The Covid-19 pandemic is raging on with 6,806 new cases and 59 fatalities in the last 24 hours, the highest tally recorded so far. Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah ( pix) said 14 deaths were reported in Johor, 10 in Selangor, Kuala Lumpur (8), Kelantan (6), four cases each in Negeri Sembilan and Melaka, three cases each in Kedah, Perak, and Terengganu, two in Sarawak, and one each in Sabah and Penang. He said the deaths involved 58 locals and one non-citizen between the ages of 37 and 91 with the majority of individuals suffering from chronic diseases. Apart from that, Selangor continued to record the highest number of new daily cases with 2,277, followed by Kuala Lumpur (655), Johor (615) and Sarawak (608).

Covid-19: Outbreak at old folks home in Terengganu among 24 new clusters

PUTRAJAYA: A Covid-19 outbreak at an old folks home in Jerteh, Terengganu has resulted in the discovery of 25 cases within the cluster. Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the outbreak is one of the country’s 24 new clusters identified on Thursday (May 20). The old folks home is located in Kampung Tok Dor in Jerteh and the positive cases involve the facility’s residents as well as its staff. The index case is a 76-year-old woman who tested positive on May 16 after she developed symptoms three days earlier. So far, 63 individuals linked to the cluster have been screened.
