KUALA LUMPUR April 28 The number of Covid-19 cases in the country continues to surge, as the Health Ministry recorded 3,142 cases today. Its director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said Selangor remains the highest with 1,019 cases or, followed by Kelantan at 523 cases, and the Federal Territory with 440 cases. Sarawak records 416 cases.

Covid-19: 13 more fatalities bring death toll to 1,462

In his daily Covid-19 updates on Tuesday (April 27), Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah (pic) said the death cases involved 12 Malaysians and one foreigner, all aged between 23 and 83. “Out of the 13 deaths, three were in Sarawak, two each in Selangor, Kelantan, Johor and Negri Sembilan, and one each in Kuala Lumpur and Penang. “The ministry expresses its condolences to the family members,” said Dr Noor Hisham. A majority of the death cases involved those with underlying conditions such as high blood pressure, diabetes and dyslipidemia. Two cases have been declared as “dead on arrival” - involving a 62-year-old Malaysian who died at Hospital Canselor Tuanku Muhriz in Cheras, and a 23-year-old foreigner at the Selayang Hospital.

Six hostel students will not be compounded after appeal, discussions, say Perak Health Committee chairman

IPOH: The six matriculation students who were issued compounds for failing to adhere to the Covid-19 standard operating procedures (SOPs) will not be compounded, says Mohd Akmal Kamaruddin. The Perak Health Committee chairman said the decision was made after the students appealed and discussions were carried out with the state health department. During a meeting with the Kampar health officer and the Perak Health department director, we decided not to compound the students, and the case has been declared closed. The students are from poor families. Therefore, we believed that this is the best decision as it won t burden them, he told reporters during his visit to the Selama health clinic Tuesday (Apr 27).
