The number of new cases in the last 24 hours is 3,455, based on the Health Ministry’s latest figures. With the addition of the 3,455 cases, the cumulative total of Covid-19 cases recorded in Malaysia so far is 222,628. The Umno vice president said despite the commendable efforts of Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah since the start of the pandemic, Covid-19 has gone beyond a health issue and deteriorated into a complex problem of national importance.

Covid-19: Malaysia hits two unwelcome records

There was a record high 21 deaths due to Covid-19, the highest number of fatalities in a single day by far. The number of patients under intensive care also went up to an unprecedented figure of 327, with 145 requiring ventilator support. Covid-19: Seven new clusters, six linked to workplaces

PUTRAJAYA: The Health Ministry said seven new Covid-19 clusters have been detected in the country, six of which are workplace-related. In his daily Covid-19 updates on Tuesday (Feb 2), Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said there are now 404 active clusters nationwide being monitored by the ministry. One of the new clusters in Selangor, the Tapak Bina Jalan Cheras cluster, is linked to workers at a construction site. Following a targeted screening exercise involving 823 individuals linked to the site, 332 positive cases were detected. Another, the Jalan Ragum cluster, has 219 positive cases among factory workers. Dr Noor Hisham said the cases were discovered from a targeted screening exercise conducted at the Shah Alam factory from Jan 16.
