MOH submits draft amendments to Act 342 to AGC 31 Jan 2021 / 21:04 H. KOTA BHARU: The draft amendments to the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Act 1988 (Act 342) have been submitted to the Attorney-General’s Chambers (AGC), said Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah ( pix). He explained that as Act 342 was gazetted in 1988, it needed to be amended including the maximum compound of RM1,000 and below under this Act, in accordance with current needs. “Now we will use the Emergency Ordinance to make the amendments,“ he told reporters after visiting the Covid-19 Low-Risk Treatment and Quarantine Centre at Pusat Tarbiyah Islamiah Kelantan (PUTIK), here, today.

Covid-19: M sia breaches 5,000 mark for second straight day with 5,728 new cases

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia for the second consecutive day logged Covid-19 new infection numbers that breached the 5,000 mark after reporting 5,728 cases today, a new daily record, along with 13 more deaths. The country recorded 5,725 cases yesterday. Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said there were now 47,388 active cases while the death toll stands at 746. Of the new cases, 5,723 were local transmissions while five more were imported cases involving two Malaysians and three foreigners. “There are 319 patients in the intensive care unit with 120 of them intubated,” he said via Twitter today. Dr Noor Hisham said 3,805 recovery cases were recorded today, bringing the total number of recoveries to 161,527 cases, while the country’s infection tally now stands at 209,661 cases.

The Health Ministry also said Selangor had the most new cases, with 3,285 recorded. Of the new cases, five were imported infections involving two Malaysians and three foreigners. Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said on Saturday (Jan 30) that there were another 13 fatalities, bringing the death toll to 746. There were also 3,805 new recoveries, bringing the total number of recoveries to 161,527. Of the 13 fatalities, four were recorded in Selangor involving three men aged from 53 to 78 and a 62-year-old woman. The men had had histories of non-communicable diseases such as diabetes and high blood pressure while the woman also had breast cancer.
