17,405 cases mark all-time high

PUTRAJAYA: Malaysia’s daily Covid-19 figures hit an all-time high after recording 17,405 new infections. This overtook the record 17,045 cases set only three days on July 25. It is now 16 days in a row that Malaysia’s daily cases have stayed above the 10,000 mark. Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the country’s total cumulative cases had now reached 1,061,476. Selangor remains the state with the most cases with 7,171 new infections, of which 4,128 (57%) of cases are those from close contacts of Covid-19 patients. Another 2,703 (37%) are unlinked cases while only 338 are related to clusters. Kuala Lumpur has the second highest number of new cases at 2,880. Kedah recorded 1,112 new cases, the fourth consecutive day of four digits in the state.

Health DG: No Covid-19 outbreak during current Parliament sitting, 56 cases were detected earlier

PUTRAJAYA: No Covid-19 outbreak has been detected during the current special Parliament sitting, says the Health Ministry. Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the 56 positive cases found among MPs and officers were detected from screenings held before the start of the sitting. “All individuals invited to attend this Parliament session had to undergo Covid-19 screening between July 21 and 25, either at the Parliament House complex, Putrajaya health centre or other government and private health facilities. “During that period, a total of 2,093 individuals underwent Covid-19 screening. “As of July 28, 56 positive cases have been detected involving two MPs, six MP aides and 48 officers from various government agencies.
