Ready to go: Noor Hisham visiting Tuanku Mizan Armed Forces Hospital’s DMZ. PETALING JAYA: With a capacity to treat 150 Covid-19 patients, the disaster management zone (DMZ) located in the underground parking lot of the Tuanku Mizan Armed Forces Hospital will begin admitting patients starting today. Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the DMZ was capable of accommodating 100 Category 3 patients as well as 50 Category 4 patients, and should they need respiratory assistance, they could be transferred to the Tuanku Mizan Armed Forces Hospital’s intensive care unit ward. Category 3 Covid-19 patients are those with symptoms of pneumonia while patients in Category 4 are those who are symptomatic, have pneumonia and need oxygen assistance.

Slight drop in cases after breaching 9,000 mark for four days

Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah ( pic) said the country’s cumulative cases now stood at 844,870. He said Selangor recorded the highest new cases with a total of 4,308 followed by Negri Sembilan (794) and Kuala Lumpur (609). “There were 102 fatalities with Selangor recording the highest death with 46 cases, followed by Kuala Lumpur (16) and Negri Sembilan (14),” he noted. Dr Noor Hisham added that from a total of 40 import cases, 36 were Malaysians while four were other nationalities. He said 5,041 patients were discharged yesterday, bringing the number of recoveries to 747,338 or 88% of the total cases. At present, 964 patients are in intensive care with 452 on ventilator support.

Published on: Tuesday, July 13, 2021 By: Bernama Text Size: Kuala Lumpur: The World Health Organisation (WHO) recently issued a warning that the Delta variant which is more extreme as it is always mutating, can put the world in grave danger.  The Delta variant which was discovered at the end of 2020 in India, is causing great concern in the world as the variant is aggressive and very infectious, contributing to the sharp rise in the Covid-19 cases in many countries, among them, the United  Kingdom (UK) with more than 82,000 Delta variant infections, followed by India, United States, Germany, Canada, Portugal and Spain.
