Najib threatens to sue Tommy Thomas

Thomas’ newly released book is titled My Story: Justice in the Wilderness. In a letter of demand served through law firm Shafee & Co and sighted by The Star, it said “Chapter 42 – Altantuya” in the book made defamatory statements against Najib. The letter, dated Feb 2 and signed by Najib’s lawyer Tan Sri Muhammad Shafee Abdullah, claimed that through the chapter, Thomas conveyed the message to readers that irrespective of the decisions of the courts, the former prime minister was somehow involved in the murder of Mongolian Altantuya Shaariibuu. It claimed that Thomas’ statements on Najib were negligent, reckless, irresponsible, deliberate, malicious and aimed to lower Najib’s esteem and good reputation in the eyes of the public and further expose him to public hatred, scorn, odium, contempt and ridicule.

Najib s SRC appeal now scheduled for April 5

PUTRAJAYA (Feb 3): The Court of Appeal (COA) today decided that former premier Datuk Seri Najib Razak s appeal to set aside his conviction and sentence in relation to the SRC International Sdn Bhd case is now fixed for 12 days beginning April 5, and not Feb 15 or March as was decided earlier. The dates for the hearing of the appeal are from April 5 to 8, 12 to 15 and 19 to 22, as decided by the COA s senior deputy registrar N Kanageswari and deputy registrar Darmafikri Abu Adam. Both of them handled the case management today. Deputy Public Prosecutor (DPP) Mohd Ashrof Adrin Kamarul appeared for the state, while lawyers Nur Syahirah Hanapiah and Muhammad Farhan Shafee appeared for the defence.

One of his lawyers, Muhammad Farhan Muhammad Shafee, in a text message, said the hearing of the appeal initially fixed on Feb 15 has been vacated. The appeal was fixed for case management Tuesday before Court of Appeal’s deputy registrars Darmafikri Abu Adam and N. Kanageswari. ADVERTISEMENT However, the case management would continue tomorrow to fix new hearing dates and filing of submissions, according to sources.

PETALING JAYA: Police will summon former attorney-general Tan Sri Tommy Thomas ( pix) for investigations following a police report lodged against him by former solicitor-general Datuk Mohamad Hanafiah Zakaria for alleged defamation. Mohamad Hanafiah who made the report in Cyberjaya on Tuesday, alleged that contents in Thomas’ recently released memoir titled “My Story: Justice in the Wilderness” had tarnished his reputation as it suggested that he was incapable of handling high-profile cases. The excerpts from Thomas’ book the ex-solicitor-general III had referred to were related to the prosecution’s preparations for the SRC International Sdn Bhd case trial. Selangor police CID chief SAC Datuk Fadzil Ahmat, who confirmed receiving the police report today, said that Thomas will be called in to have his statement recorded at the soonest.
