Woman Injured After Two-Vehicle Crash at Church & Douglas

By Benjamin Cox on May 24, 2021 at 8:55pm A Jacksonville woman was injured and a Springfield man was arrested after a 2-vehicle crash in Jacksonville this afternoon. Police received reports of a two-vehicle accident with injuries at the intersection of North Church Street and West Douglas Avenue at 2:05PM. Upon arrival and after a brief investigation, police determined that a black passenger car driven by 31 year old Jessie A Williams of Springfield allegedly failed to yield at a stop sign traveling westbound on East Douglas Avenue and struck a black car driven by 78 year old Phyllis E. Freeman of the 300 block of Marion Street.

Passavant Foundation Extends Education Grant Deadline

The Passavant Area Hospital Foundation is extending its deadline to apply for its Healthcare Career Education Grant. The new deadline is June 1st. Grants are awarded to students pursuing careers identified by Passavant Area Hospital that align with its present and future clinical care needs. Award amounts range from $3,500 to up to $27,000 for a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree. Recipients must complete a work obligation at the nonprofit hospital upon completing their program. Applicants must be currently attending or accepted into a fully accredited school for their chosen field of study and demonstrate a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.
