Joshua E. Wilson, 37, of Jacksonville was arrested about 1 p.m. Tuesday. He is accused of fatally shooting Malcolm V. Fitts, 26, a former Jacksonville resident who was living in Chicago. The reason behind the shooting has not been explained. Fitts, a father of four, was in Jacksonville to visit his daughter and mother, brother-in-law Chris Pulley told the Journal-Courier. Pulley described him as a loyal friend and family member. “He was a fun person, he had a lot of energy a positive energy,” Pulley said. “He was fun to be around and he made you feel loved.”

Arrest Made in Jacksonville Sunday Shooting

According to a press release by the Jacksonville Police Department, 37-year-old Joshua E. Wilson of Jacksonville was arrested at approximately 1:00 pm for the murder of 26-year-old Malcolm V. Fitts. Fitts was pronounced dead at Passavant Area Hospital just before 7:00 Sunday morning. Jacksonville Police were called at approximately 5:23 am Sunday to the 800 block of Hoagland Boulevard in reference to a report of gunshots being fired in the parking lot of the Turner High Rise Apartment Complex. An official cause of death has not yet been released by the Morgan County Coroner’s Office.

Wilson of Jacksonville was arraigned in Morgan County Court this morning. Wilson was charged with three counts of first-degree murder in the death of 26-year-old Malcolm V. Fitts of Chicago and formerly of Jacksonville. Fitts died of gunshot wounds at Passavant Area Hospital just before 7:00 am Sunday, after Jacksonville Police were called to the scene of a shooting in the parking lot of the Turner High Rise Apartment Complex in the 800 block of Hoagland Boulevard at approximately 5:30 am.

Wilson, 37, of 27 Lavan Drive was arrested Tuesday on a charge of murder in the death of Malcolm V. Fitts, 26, of Chicago. Fitts, who is from Jacksonville, died about an hour after arriving Sunday at Passavant Area Hospital with a gunshot wound. Police had been called to the 800 block of Hoagland Boulevard about 5:30 a.m. Sunday because of reports of shots being fired. Wilson was being held Wednesday in the Morgan County Detention Facility. A preliminary hearing has been scheduled for March 30.

A Jacksonville man was arrested Tuesday afternoon by Jacksonville police in connection with Sunday s homicide. Joshua E. Wilson 37, of Jacksonville was arrested around 1 p.m. A former Jacksonville man, Malcolm V. Fitts of Chicago, was shot and killed just before 5:30 a.m. Sunday. Wilson is in custody at the Morgan County Detention Facility pending formal charges. Jacksonville police received multiple 911 calls for shots fired for the 800 block of Hoagland Boulevard Sunday morning. While officers were searching the area, a gunshot victim, later identified as Fitts, arrived at Passavant Area Hospital. It was the city s first homicide of 2021. The Jacksonville Police Department is handling the investigation in cooperation with the Morgan County State’s Attorney’s Office, Morgan County Coroner’s Office and Illinois State Police.
