Industry-academia linkage to help enhance horticulture exports: PBF

Pakistan Businesses Forum (PBF) Vice President Chaudhry Ahmad Jawad said on Wednesday that industry and academia linkage would pay dividends to enhance horticulture exports.
It was a prerequisite for transforming the agriculture sector into a hi-tech industry and enabling it to compete at global level.
Talking to APP here, he said, “Pakistan is a developing nation that can generate surplus amount of wealth from industry academia linkages (IAL). It possesses a wide range of benefits that can influence universities, companies, society and nation. The benefits relating to society through IAL are numerous”.

Pakistan Businesses Forum (PBF) has demanded the federal government to carry out due structural changes in the power sector through measures to inculcate service-oriented approach in power distribution companies (Discos), PBF President Sahibzada Mian Usman Zulfiqar said in a statement on Thursday.
“Despite huge circular debt of the country, Pakistan Electric Power Company (PEPCO) has recently further extended the duration for outside posting of the Disco officers from the parent company to other power distribution companies from one year to three years which also put heavy burden before national exchequer and even it makes no sense,” he said.

LAHORE: Pakistan should build ripening centres and Controlled Atmosphere Storage (CAS) to meet the needs of modern fresh produce markets of world, an industry official said on Tuesday.
“This can easily help the country raise its annual fresh fruits export to $1.5 billion in two years,” said Ahmad Jawad, Vice President of Pakistan Businesses Forum (PBF) in a statement.
“If we establish ripening centres with proper treatment, our fresh fruits would fetch double rates, besides increasing the export volumes.” In this regard Ministry of Commerce might devise a policy and allow zero percent duty on import of required machinery by issuing specific SRO.
