NEW LONDON The mayor announced Thursday that Acting Police Chief Brian Wright has been selected to take over the position permanently.
The announcement came one day after a report indicated former Police Chief Peter Reichard retired when he was confronted about a recorded conversation of him apparently disparaging the city, The Day of New London reported.
According to The Day, Reichard decided to retire the same day Mayor Michael Passero confronted him with a transcript of the recording. In the recording, Reichard apparently made comments about being passed over for promotions because he is white, The Day reported.
