Man accused of threats to Cory Gardner needs mental exam, says attorney

On Tuesday, the judge presiding over the case of Thomas Wornick gave his attorney 30 days to report back on whether she and the prosecutor agree on which psychiatrist or psychologist would examine Wornick. Wornick, 37, was arrested March 9 after an investigation by sheriff s officers and the Safe Streets Task Force of the FBI and Pueblo police. He is charged with making threatening communications in emails. The case is in Denver at the U.S. District Court for Colorado. Interactions with Mr. Wornick support the need for an evaluation, his attorney, Laura A. Menninger, wrote last month to Judge Raymond Moore. She said she has been unable to engage in a meaningful dialogue regarding the options for trial and or plea negotiations, defenses and evidence, with Mr. Wornick. It appears to counsel that Mr. Wornick is not able to assist properly in his defense.
