BOGOTA, Jan 26 (Reuters) - Colombia’s Defense Minister Carlos Holmes Trujillo has died from viral pneumonia related to COVID-19, the government said on Tuesday.
Trujillo was reported infected with coronavirus earlier this month and was transferred to an intensive care unit. He died in the military hospital in Bogota aged 69.
“The death of Carlos Holmes fills me with pain,” a visibly moved President Ivan Duque said. “Colombia has lost one of its best men.”
Before serving as defense minister, from where he coordinated military and police operations in the fight against drug trafficking, illegal armed groups, illicit mining and other criminal acts, Trujillo served as foreign minister in Duque’s government.

After accusing students, indigenous people and even Colombia’s middle class of terrorism, Defense Minister Diego Molano will now confront ELN guerrillas.
This may be a bit of a problem, because not only are the ELN actual terrorists, they also have more than 50 years of experience in guerrilla warfare and could be stronger than ever.
Molano is a business administrator with a specialization in international relations and a master in public administration.
The guerrillas must be terrified now that they’re confronted with such a worthy adversary.
Fortunately for the ELN, the new defense minister will be confronted with a reality so terrifying he may want to pretend he will not be beaten to pulp by the time he is allowed to run back to his mother.

Americans will have to wear a mask while using any form of public transportation including buses, trains, taxis, planes, boats, subways or rideshare vehicles from late Monday to slow the spread of Covid-19, the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has announced.
The order goes into effect at 11:59 p.m. ET Monday.
The order, signed by Dr. Martin Cetron, director of CDC s Division of Global Migration and Quarantine, says people must wear a mask that covers the nose and mouth while on public transportation and while waiting for their ride. The mask needs to feature at least two layers of breathable fabric and secured to the head with ties, ear loops or elastic bands.
