KARACHI: Karachi suffered a massive power breakdown on Saturday morning in the sweltering weather due a breakdown in Bin Qasim power station that left the power supply disrupted for whole day.
A huge area of the port city suffered up to nine hours or more of power outage as a plant at Bin Qasim bellowed heavy smoke from its gas insulating system due to a mechanical fault.
Large population and business centres across North Karachi, Golimar, Korangi, Nazimabad, North Nazimabad, Al-Asif Square, Saddar, Shah Faisal, Korangi, Old City Area, Lyarim Landhi, Liaquatabad, Gulistan-e-Jauhar, Federal B Area, Clifton, Safoora, PECHS, and Defense Housing Authority (DHA) were among the areas without power.

KARACHI: Karachiites had a miserable day on Saturday when most of the city was left with no electricity due to the tripping of a high-tension transmission line a little after noon.
The K-Electric said that its 220kV high-tension circuit was affected by the tripping in National Transmission and Despatch Company’s NKI-Baldia 1 and 2, supplying electricity to Karachi.
The federal ministry of energy confirmed that the supply of electricity to Karachi was affected because of the tripping in Northern-Karachi Interconnections transmission lines Baldia 1 and 2 and the NTDC and the city’s power utility were busy restoring the supply. No causes of the tripping were, however, mentioned by the authorities.

Maira murder case: Another suspect Zahir Jadoon arrested in Lahore
LAHORE (Dunya News) - Zahir Jadoon, another suspect nominated in the murder of a British girl of Pakistani origin in Defence Housing Authority (DHA), Lahore was arrested after he came to the police station for interrogation.
Earlier, CIA police arrested Saad Ameer Butt, the main accused in the case. According to police sources, Saad Butt had withdrawn his interim bail.
It may be recalled that a woman named Maira was killed on May 3 in Defense an area of Lahore. An autopsy report revealed that she was tortured and strangled to death. Police is still investigating the case.
