7th Parliament Expires At Midnight Today

The expiration comes after a constitutionally mandated four-year term. The dissolution of the 7th parliament at midnight will be followed by the inauguration of the 8th Parliament of the 4th Republic, which will in turn elect a new Speaker and two deputies. Both the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) with equal seats in the House have so far failed to attain a clear majority in Parliament after the December 7, election. Meanwhile, President Akufo-Addo has commended the 7th parliament for staying busy in the four-year term describing it as the busiest and most productive in the history of Ghana.

Brevity Is A Strong Mark of a Focused Person - Koku Anyidoho On Akufo-Addo s Last SONA | Politics

Former Deputy General Secretary of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) Koku Anyidoho has described President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s last State of the Nation Address (SONA) in the most charitable terms. Mr Anyidoho has described the speech as “commendable” for certain specific features. Mr Anyidoho who was himself a presidential speechwriter for late President Atta-Mills said he used to keep his speeches “crisp and straight-to-the-point”. He said he saw all the above elements in the SONA as delivered by the President at Parliament. He wrote: The brevity of President Akufo-Addo’s SONA speech yesterday, is commendable. No need for a long winding speech. As the speech writer of President Atta-Mills, I used keep his speeches crisp and straight-to-the-point. Brevity is a strong mark of a focused person.

COMPLETE STALEMATE IN GHANA S NEW PARLIAMENT

COMPLETE STALEMATE IN GHANA’S NEW PARLIAMENT January 6, 2021 I know that the results of some constituencies are in dispute. But for now, according to EC declaration,NDC has 137 seats and NPP has 137 seats in the 8 th Parliament of the Fourth Republic. This is a complete legislative stalemate! It has never happened before in the political history of Ghana. Strangely our prophets and seers have been overtaken by circumstances beyond their control. They did not see it coming and neveralerted us about it and left us in the dark. What went wrong? Some call this stalemate a “hung parliament.” No, this is more than a hung parliament. We know that hung Parliaments have no clear cut majority but have precedents we can refer to; not this strange political phenomenon we now have. It has no identity or name. Our political scientists should quickly coin a name for it.
