Parliament to nominate members of 11 standing c’tees

Parliamentary has constituted a 20-member Committee of Selection, to oversee the nomination of members to the 11 Standing Committees of the House.
The Committee, pursuant to Standing Order 152, would also see to the composition of the 16 Select Committees of the House, groupings and associations.
Chaired by the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, the committee was expected to present its report to the plenary of the House within 10 sitting days of its composition in line with Standing Order 151(2).
The 19 other members of the Committee comprise of nine New Patriotic Party (NPP) Members of Parliament (MPs), including Leader of the Majority Group, and MP for Suame, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, and eight National Democratic Congress MPs, led by MP for Tamale South, Haruna Iddrisu.

The Chiefs and Queen mothers of Nadowli-Kaleo District in the Upper West Region have congratulated Mr Alban Bagbin, on his election as the Speaker of the 8th Parliament of the Fourth Republic.
“We are proud of you, Mr Speaker, and we pray for God s guidance and protection for you, may your tenure as Speaker be successful and one that would be remembered for all the good reasons in our proud history as a country”, they said.
Addressing a News conference at Kaleo on behalf of the Chiefs, Queen Mothers and the entire people of Nadowli-Kaleo District, Naa Abayema Kandemekpie II, the Chief of Kanyini, noted that Mr Bagbin s 28 years of experience in Parliament had placed him in a better position to play the role of a Speaker as the public would expect in this material moment.
