Parkersburg sales tax receipts remain strong | News, Sports, Jobs

ebevins@newsandsentinel.com PARKERSBURG A proposed budget revision before Parkersburg City Council on Tuesday would boost anticipated revenue from the municipal sales tax to its highest level ever. Council will meet in regular session at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday in its chambers on the second floor of the Municipal Building. That’s a week earlier than the usual fourth Tuesday of the month in order to comply with state code requirements to lay the levy rates for the upcoming fiscal year. The budget revision for council deals primarily with increasing the estimate for the 1 percent sales tax revenue by $231,974, bringing the projected total for the year to $6,251,971.

PUB authorizes bids for boiler, compressor project | News, Sports, Jobs

ebevins@newsandsentinel.com PARKERSBURG The Parkersburg Utility Board voted Tuesday to seek bids on the replacement of a boiler and air compressor system at the water treatment plant. Manager Eric Bennett said the plans and specifications have been completed, but a final cost estimate is still being determined. “I’m fairly confident that you’re looking at about ($250,000),” he said during the regular meeting Tuesday morning at the utility’s offices. “It’s a relatively small project.” Locally based engineering firm Burgess & Niple determined the existing setup of two air compressors with separate tanks can be replaced with a single tank and dual air compressors. That won’t make a large cost difference up front but is expected to help over time, Bennett said.
