Ohio man dead in Parkersburg shooting By

PARKERSBURG, W.Va. Parkersburg police say an Ohio man was killed in a shooting Sunday afternoon in the city and a homicide investigation is underway.
According to the department, an Akron man was shot at 4420 17th Ave. in Parkersburg and died a short time after at WVU Medicine Camden Clark Medical Center.
The victim was shot in the back shortly after 2 p.m. and was still alive when first transported to the hospital.

PARKERSBURG, W.Va. (AP) A West Virginia man who stabbed a neighbor and then charged at a responding officer with a weapon has been fatally shot, police said.
Officers were called to Oakwood Village apartments Sunday and found a 60-year-old woman outside her apartment with “multiple stab wounds, Parkersburg Police Chief Joe Martin said. The suspect, Rufus James Ramsey III, 34, was found outside his apartment still armed with what Martin described as “basically a meat cleaver.
Martin told The Parkersburg News and Sentinel that Ramsey initially dropped the weapon, but then picked it up and rushed at an officer, who shot him.

PARKERSBURG, W.Va. A man is dead after being shot and killed by a Parkersburg police officer Sunday afternoon at Oakwood Village apartments.
Parkersburg Police Chief Joe Martin said the officer fired at Rufus Ramsey III, 34, of Parkersburg, after Ramsey allegedly rushed at the officer with a meat cleaver. Martin says Ramsey had previously stabbed a female neighbor at the apartment complex with the weapon. She is hospitalized.
Martin said the investigation has been turned over to state police.
Chief Martin told the Parkersburg News and Sentinel newspaper Sunday it appears the officer followed proper procedure.
