Windsor-Essex reports 28 new COVID-19 cases â lowest number since late March
There were 28 new cases of COVID-19 in Windsor-Essex in southwestern Ontario on Tuesday, the lowest daily increase since the end of March â although the medical officer of health says there needs to be a pattern of fewer cases before loosening restrictions is considered.

New Cases
Cases increased from 15,568 on Monday May 3rd to 15,596 on Tuesday May 4th and 386 cases of COVID-19 are currently active in Windsor-Essex.

The Health Unit says 11 cases are close contacts of confirmed cases, 4 cases are community acquired, and the acquisition sources of 13 cases are still being investigated by the Health Unit’s contact tracing staff.
Variants of Concern
The Health Unit says 974 preliminary or confirmed variant of concern cases have been identified to date (an increase of 40 identified since yesterday).
Variant case totals:
886 of the total variant cases to date have been the U.K. Variant (B.1.1.7) (increase of 38 identified since yesterday)

Adult residents of seven select Windsor-Essex postal codes as well as anyone age 50 and older can now book a COVID-19 vaccine appointment.
Starting Monday, anyone age 18 and up living in a neighbourhood identified as a “hot spot” for the virus is eligible for the Pfizer jab at a mass vaccination site. The local chosen postal codes are N8X, N8Y, N9A, N9B, N9C, N8H, and N9Y. Those born in 1971 and earlier can book an appointment regardless of where they live.
