The Women s Center of Tarrant County sold teal t-shirts as part of its Turn Tarrant Teal initiative supporting Sexual Assault Awareness Month, which is in April.

“Join us on April 28 when millions will wear jeans on Denim Day, along with a teal T-shirt to help us shine a light on sexual assault awareness, Laura Hilgart, The Women’s Center’s president and CEO, said in a news release. As the community starts to open up, we are already starting to see an increase in people seeking services. Now more than ever, we need the community’s support.
To honor the end of April, Sexual Assault Awareness Month, a local Salina coffee house and book store is this week hosting an opportunity for survivors and community members to speak out against sexual assault.
Joining with Domestic Violence Association of Central Kansas, Ad Astra Books and Coffee House, is hosting the free event, Speak Night: Speak Out Against Sexual Violence at 7 p.m. Friday at 141 N. Santa Fe Ave.
The event will feature people in the community reading poetry, sharing a story or performing music in honor of the month.
Ad Astra also has a drink for a cause each month, with April s being a blackberry cinnamon cream soda. The coffee house donates $1 of each of these drinks for a cause to a local organization, with this month s donations going to DVACK.

In light of recent complaints of West Virginia Universityâs handling of sexual assault on campus, freshman SGA Sen. Olivia Dowler is reaching out to survivors to offer resources and understanding.Â
Earlier this month, WellWVU, in collaboration with the Division of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, placed flags in Woodburn Circle for Sexual Assault Awareness Month, representing that 1-in-4 women and 1-in-16 men are sexually assaulted during their time in college.
For many students, this display seemed insincere. Shortly after the University posted about the flags on Instagram, the comment section flooded with criticism from current and former students.

Retreat Behavioral Health is marking Sexual Assault Awareness Month with a virtual panel discussion for sexual assault survivors and therapists on how to heal from sexual violence and overcome the trauma, according to a press release.
