The influenza landed lethally in October, prompting authorities to close schools, churches, synagogues, racetracks and theaters. There were marked differences between 1918 and 2020-2021. The 1918 pandemic cut down young persons in the 20 to 44 age group with alarming speed. In 2021, it was seniors who were most susceptible, though health officials say younger people are currently fueling transmission of COVID-19.
