Georgia receives $6.5M in grants for Law Enforcement Training program

ATLANTA, Ga. (WTXL) â During the 2020 legislative session, Governor Brian Kemp recommended and lawmakers approved the creation of a law enforcement training grant program through the Criminal Justice Coordinating Council for state and local law enforcement agencies.
On Wednesday it came to fruition.
Kemp announced the award of 63 grants in the amount of $6,756,389 for the Law Enforcement Training Grant Program Wednesday afternoon. We are committed to giving law enforcement officers across the state specialized training and resources needed to provide the best possible public safety to Georgiaâs citizens,â said Gov. Man charged with storage unit burglaries, catalytic converter thefts
DAPHNE, Alabama (WALA) Following the execution of a search warrant at his residence in Daphne, a man stands accused of burglarizing storage units and also stealing catalytic converters, according to the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office.
During the last six months, the agency says, the BCSO along with other law enforcement agencies in the county have documented several burglaries of storage units and thefts of catalytic converters.
On May 7, a travel trailer, valued around $35,000, was stolen from a storage lot in Daphne. Authorities say video surveillance showed a silver Toyota Tundra truck in the area when the travel trailer was stolen. Patrol units were told to be on the lookout for the vehicle.

31 Kilos of Cocaine Washes Ashore on Alabama Beach

Speaking with
Newsweek, Gulf Shores Police Department Sergeant Jason Woodruff said that the drugs washed up in about a five-mile area of the beach.
According to Woodruff, police were first alerted of the washed-up drugs by beachgoers on Monday night and again on Tuesday. They just saw suspicious packages in the sand, on the surf and we sent officers down to recover, Woodruff said.
Shortly after police were notified, they arrived to the scene and conducted a field test of the packages. They field tested positive for cocaine, Woodruff said.

A Tennessee man has been sentenced to state prison in connection with a high-speed chase last year that sent two Florida Highway Patrol troopers to the hospital after their patrol cars crashed into each other.
John Thomas Puckett of Dresden, Tennessee, was sentenced to nine years in prison followed by six years of probation for aggravated fleeing and eluding causing serious bodily injury, DUI causing property damage, driving without a valid license and battery on an EMT/paramedic.
The charges stemmed from a May 12, 2020, chase. Puckett led the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office on a high-speed chase in a vehicle stolen in Mobile.
