Steam train enthusiast Russell Wiseman remembered for dedication to Feilding community

Murray Wilson/Stuff Wiseman “got sick of just watching” other steam groups drive past, so formed Feilding s own steam society and leased their own locomotive, Feilding and Districts Steam Train Society Rod Bertram said. Feilding mayor Helen Worboys met Wiseman in the early 1990s through her work with Feilding Promotion. They “clicked” over their love of proving people who said no wrong. The greatest example was the 2008 North Island Main Trunk Line centenary. Worboys recalled KiwiRail telling them Feilding would never be able to pull off such a big event, that it needed to be hosted in Palmerston North. “But Palmerston North didn t have the volunteers or the passion that we had in Feilding.”
