From ICBC and ferry fares to electricity and the minimum wage, hereâs a rundown of some of the changes coming into effect in 2021.
Minimum wage: As of June 2021, minimum-wage workers in B.C. will receive $15.20 an hour. B.C.âs minimum wage has gone up every June 1 since 2018.

Ferry, transit fares capped: B.C.âs Transportation Ministry announced in December that B.C. Ferries will receive more than $300 million in Safe Restart money, some of which will limit average annual fare increases to 2.3 per cent until March 31, 2024.

Drivers should take note of an overnight tunnel closure in East Vancouver that will be taking place late this coming weekend.
The B.C. Transportation Ministry announced on December 17 that the Cassiar Tunnel on Highway 1 will be temporarily closed in both directions, starting at 8 p.m. on Sunday (December 20) and will reopen at 4 a.m. on Monday (December 21).
During the closure, the tunnel’s fire suppression system and overhead lane control signals will be tested.
The following detours are recommended:
eastbound Highway 1 traffic: follow Exit 26 (Cassiar Connector) to Hastings Street. Continue along the Cassiar Connector, across Hastings Street and rejoin Highway 1 eastbound;
