168 more Bangladeshis return home from UK Senior Correspondent | banglanews24.com Another 168 Bangladeshi passengers returned home from the United Kingdom on Monday noon amid concerns about the spread of a new coronavirus variant in Britain. Of the new arrivals, 144 landed at Osmani International Airport in Sylhet by a Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight and 24 passengers landed at the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka.  Osmani International Airport Manager Hafiz Ahmed told Banglanews that a team of Health Department scrutinized the Covid-19 certificates of the passengers. All of their test results were negative for the virus. After scrutiny, they were released with recommendation for respective home quarantine.

Passengers of suspended flights have been requested to contact with the near-by sales office to get tickets, said the release signed by Tahera Khandaker, deputy general manager (public relations) of Biman. The Saudi government, however, said foreign citizens would be able to leave the kingdom by air. The General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA) of that country made the fresh announcement amid reports of detection of a new mutated strain of the novel coronavirus in the UK. In an urgent circular, GACA said foreign airlines are permitted to carry non-Saudi passengers out of the kingdom, taking precautionary measures to prevent the spread of Covid. But they must not allow their crew to leave aircraft.

Of the passengers, 144 landed in Osmani International Airport of Sylhet by a flight of Biman Bangladesh Airlines. And 17 passengers landed at the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport, Nasrin Akter, a doctor at the health desk of HSIA, told The Daily Star. After health screening, all passengers were allowed to go home as they had Covid-19 negative certificates. But they will have to stay in home quarantine for 14-days, added Dr Nasrin.

The contractual appointment will come in effect from December 31 or the date of his joining. Earlier December 24, the public administration ministry issued a gazette appointing Mokabbir Hossain, managing director and CEO of Biman Bangladesh Airlines (additional secretary), as the secretary of railways ministry.  However, the ministry scrapped that gazette for Mokabbir s appointment later on that day.
