Two wards of the
PCMC) have allegedly forced its sanitation staff to clean
nullahs without necessary safety precautions in clear violation of the Prohibition of Employment as Manual Scavengers and Their Rehabilitation Act, 2013.
The negligence came to light after civic activists took photographic evidence of the work in progress over the last three days and submitted a complaint to municipal commissioner Rajesh
Patil and district collector
Rajesh Deshmukh. The pictures show the staff cleaning nullahs manually, without gloves, boots and masks. Contractors are supervising manual work by sanitary staff to allegedly save money, despite having machines.
