Standard operating procedures (SOPs) laid down on segregation and disposal The rising number of COVID-19 patients in Maharashtra has presented another challenge to civic bodies in major cities on dealing with disposal of biomedical waste, which has also increased substantially.
The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has seen a spike in the number of cases with around 6,84,048 positive patients since 2020. The financial capital produces around 22 to 23 MT biomedical waste every day.

The European Investment Bank (EIB) has signed a $182m (€150m) finance contract with the Indian Government for the Pune Metro Rail project’s second portion in Maharashtra through a virtual signing ceremony.

The contract was signed between EIB vice-president Christian Kettel Thomsen and the Ministry of Finance on behalf of the Indian Government.
The funds will be utilised for carrying out the construction and operation of Corridor 1 (North-South) from Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) to Swargate, as well as Corridor 2 (West-East) from Vanaz to Ramwadi.

New Delhi: The Indian government and the European Investment Bank (EIB) on Friday signed the finance contract for second tranche of 150 million euros for the Pune Metro Rail project, through a virtual signing ceremony.
The signing ceremony was held in the presence of Portugal s Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Francisco Andre, and EIB President Werner Hoyer, with Additional Secretary, Economic Affairs, K. Rajaraman, signing the loan on behalf of India, and EIB Vice President Christian Kettel Thomsen, on behalf of the EIB.
