The contractual firm and its staffers were found collecting garbage from private players violating the norms of agreement with the local body and charging the latter for collection of this increased amount of waste along with regular citizens’ trash.

The civic body has said that the person was supposed to use the fertile soil at Moshi garbage depot to create compost from waste. Nonetheless, the locals were unconvinced they cited the threat of floods in lowlying areas of Sangvi and Dapodi.

The policy has been approved by the standing committee of PCMC on February 4 and work directions are expected to be issued to contractors in seven days. According to the proposal, parking charges would be Rs 5/hour for two and three-wheelers, Rs 10 for cars and tempos, Rs 25 for trucks and minibuses and Rs 100 for private buses and heavy vehicles.

Pune, which has been among the most-affected cities due to the Covid-19 pandemic in the country, also has the rate of spread of the virus under its control to a large extent. Now, it has been reported that for the first time since the virus outbreak began last year, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has fewer number of active cases than the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC).
