COVID-19 in Pimpri Chinchwad: Three more test positive for new coronavirus variant; Maha tally rises to 11

Three more returnees to Maharashtra from the United Kingdom (UK) were found infected with the new fast-spreading coronavirus variant, taking the tally to 11. On Thursday, all three passengers to have tested positive are from Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC), said a Special Surveillance Report from the Maharashtra government.
Earlier on Monday, Maharashtra Health Minister Rajesh Tope announced that a total of eight passengers who had returned from the UK have tested positive for the mutant coronavirus. Out of the eight positive patients, five were from Mumbai and one each from Pune, Thane and Mira Bhayandar.
With 3,160 new cases in state, the overall tally has crossed the 19.50-lakh mark.
On Tuesday, Pune reported eight casualties amongst
COVID patients, taking the district’s toll to 8,863, said officials. Also, 373 new cases and 414 recoveries were reported over last 24 hours. So far, 3,65,396 people have tested positive of which 3,51,082 have recovered.
Among the new cases, 233 are in
Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) limit while 140 are in Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) reported 140 fresh cases.
There are 2,725 active COVID cases in PMC limits out of which 222 are critical. About 455 patients are at present undergoing oxygen treatment in various city hospitals. On Tuesday, 3,398 tests were conducted by PMC, which took the cumulative total to 9.35 lakh, said Dr Ashish Bharti, PMC health chief.

The
district administration successfully completed its first dry run for COVID-19 vaccination on Saturday wherein software and technical parts involved in the inoculation process were put to test.
The officials said there were no technical glitches observed during the dry run while a few of them involved in the process said this would delay the vaccination process as it takes a lot of time to verify details and update them on CoWin application.
