The 2021-22 session began in late January. Expect COVID-19 and the ongoing fallout from the pandemic to be top priorities for lawmakers, who are crafting a new budget for the biennium. They’ll also draw new legislative and congressional maps for the next decade based on fresh census data. Each legislator, too, has their own priorities.
Deputies chase goat down North Carolina highway

Feb. 11 (UPI) A North Carolina sheriff s office said deputies ended up in an unusual foot (and hoof) chase when a runaway goat spotted wandering in the street attempted to elude capture.
The Brunswick County Sheriff s Office said two deputies responded to the report of a goat on the loose on Old Ocean Highway and they arrived to find the elusive animal running down the roadway.

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, N.C. (WECT) - A stubborn goat gave a pair of Brunswick County deputies all they could handle.
A Facebook post from the sheriffâs office said Sgt. Mike Murray and Deputy Blake Young were recently called out to help find a goat that had gotten loose from its owner.
âThis little nanny goat wasnât too eager to be caught so subsequently a foot (and hoof) chase ensued down Old Ocean Hwy.,â the post stated.

SHALLOTTE, N.C. (WECT) - Fire crews are responding to a fire in Shallotte Monday morning and the area is closed to traffic, according to the Brunswick County Sheriffâs Office.
âLarge fire at 4830 Main St. in Shallotte. Traffic is being redirected around the area via 130 and Mulberry Street. The area will likely be shut down for quite a while. Avoid area if possible,â the BCSO said in a tweet.
According to an online search the address is the home of Vision Square Eyecare and a plaza.
