Maine has been leading the nation in the latter category for about a month, with 40% fully vaccinated.

Massachusetts man indicted in Franklin County shooting

Read Article FARMINGTON A Massachusetts man accused of shooting a man during an argument Dec. 30 in Dallas Plantation was officially charged Thursday. Jesse Duval Franklin County Sheriff’s Office photo Jesse W. Duval, 46, of Westminster, Massachusetts, was indicted by a Franklin County grand jury on charges of elevated aggravated assault and reckless conduct with a firearm. A conviction for the assault charge is punishable by up to 30 years in prison; for the reckless conduct charge, up to five years. An indictment indicates there is enough evidence for a case to proceed to trial. Related Duval and another man were arguing inside a home on Lynn Way. The men, who were related by marriage, went outside, and the victim was shot, according to Franklin County Sheriff Scott Nichols Sr., who issued a news release at the time.

Maine hospitals get good grades in latest Leapfrog ratings

By Staff The Leapfrog Group, a nonprofit watchdog group that monitors the quality of U.S. health care, is out with its latest grades for hospital safety and Maine hospitals are again near the top of the class. Nine of 16 evaluated hospitals in the state received an “A,” and Maine ranked No. 3 in the U.S. for the highest percentage of facilities receiving the top grade. The A list comprises: Cary Medical Center, Caribou; Central Maine Medical Center, Lewiston; Franklin Memorial Hospital, Farmington; Maine Medical Center, Portland; Mid Coast Hospital, Brunswick; Northern Light A.R. Gould Hospital, Presque Isle; Northern Light Inland Hospital, Waterville; Pen Bay Medical Center, Rockport; and Southern Maine Healthcare, Biddeford.
