FARMINGTON Franklin Memorial Hospital received an A grade Thursday in the spring 2021 Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade, a national distinction recognizing Franklin’s achievements protecting patients from errors, injuries, accidents and infections.
This is the second consecutive time that FMH has received an A grade in the same survey period. The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade assigns an A, B, C, D or F grade to all general hospitals across the country and is updated every six months. It is the only hospital rating program based exclusively on hospitals’ prevention of medical errors and other harms to patients in their care.
MaineHealth offers options for COVID vaccinations
Those seeking a vaccination will be able to schedule an appointment at the time they register online, and some locations plan to offer a walk-in option as well.

REGION In an effort to maintain the momentum of vaccinating communities against COVID-19, MaineHealth today announced it will be offering new scheduling options at clinics across its service area, including the ability to schedule an appointment at the time of registering online. Walk-in options will also soon be available at some locations.
To date, MaineHealth has administered more than 280,000 doses of vaccine against COVID-19 at 10 clinics, including locations in Belfast, Boothbay Harbor, Brunswick, Farmington, Norway, Rockland, Sanford, Scarborough, Westbrook, and North Conway, N.H. MaineHealth Care at Home is also administering vaccinations to its home health care patients across its service area.

FARMINGTON United Way of the Tri-Valley Area recently added five new members to its board of directors.
Dr. Erika Schumacher obtained her medical degree from the Larner UVM School of Medicine in 2008 and completed residency at Yale-New Haven Children’s Hospital in June of 2011. She subsequently directed the Yale Pediatric Refugee Clinic for newly arrived refugees for several years, as well as practiced pediatric medicine in a community practice in central Connecticut. In 2015, she relocated with her husband and daughter to Farmington, worked five years at Franklin Memorial Hospital and then opened a private practice at Narrow Gauge Square.

REGION COVID -19 vaccination sites are seeing a significant decrease of people making appointments in Franklin and Androscoggin counties where over 65% of the population is either fully vaccinated or has received their first dose.
“New or first dose registrations are at a steep decline approximately 25 a day,” Franklin Memorial Hospital Communications and Public Affairs Spokesperson Jill Gray said in an email.
During the week of April 7 when Governor Janet Mills made the vaccine available to anyone 16 and older, FMH was at about 250 new, first dose registrations a day.
Hannaford Media Spokesperson Eric Bloom also reported a slow down in vaccine registrations, and Walmart in Farmington is now reaching out to people on its call waitlist.
