TODAY Joe Biden will enter the White House as the 46th president of the United States. It’s likely to be a glitzy, showbiz affair, with country music star Garth Brooks due to perform as part of the swearing-in ceremony and Hollywood ‘royalty’ Tom Hanks hosting a 90-minute prime-time TV special celebration Biden’s inauguration. Although attendance at the ceremony will be severely restricted amid the pandemic, with heightened security measures following this month’s unrest at the Capitol building, the start-studded line-up is also set to include Hamilton creator Lin-Manuel Miranda, recit ing a classical work, and musicians including Jon Bon Jovi, Bruce Springsteen, Justin Timberlake, Demi Lovato and John Legend. Lady Gaga will sing the national anthem as Mr Biden and vice president-elect Kamala Harris are sworn in to office, with Jennifer Lopez also giving a musical performance.

A city which has seen high levels of covid-19 infection and mortality through much of the pandemic has declared it plans to vaccinate its entire adult population by July a target months ahead of national ambitions.
Health bosses in Bradford and Craven said in a paper to their health overview and scrutiny committee this month that they were aiming to vaccinate the entire over-50s population registered with GPs in the district by March, and all over-18s by July.
